Antenatal Care

Pregnancy is a special and personal time. During your pregnancy we will spend time getting to know each other in order for me to understand your hopes and aspirations for your birth, and beyond. Together we will build a trusted relationship that offers you the freedom to express your needs and desires with confidence. Antenatal visits will take 1-2 hour and will be monthly until 32 weeks, fortnightly until 36 weeks, and then weekly until birth.

Labour and Birth Care

I often imagine a world where all babies are born in peace, a world where all babies are received by loving hands. Gently birthing your baby at home is a safe and filling choice for many families. Welcoming your baby with the support of a midwife that you know and trust can be a very satisfying experience. Throughout pregnancy I will support you to make informed choices to ensure you feel confident and safe in your birth space. During labour, I offer holistic care for you and your baby, always respecting your autonomy and self-determination.

Postnatal Care

The early days and weeks after having a baby can sometimes feel like a little bit of a blur. Post natal care for mother is a special time to indulge in the pure bliss of a new life. Having care in your own home cultivates a space of wellness, and allows for nurturing of your physical and emotional health. I love holding space for families to discover their own unique values and expressions of parenting. Postnatal visits are individualised to the families needs and desires. Private Postnatal Care visits on the lasts for 1-2 hours and a typical schedule of visits is Day 1, 2, and 3, Day 5, Day 7, and then weekly to 6 weeks.

Formal referrals for the community give back program will be prioritized over self referrals. My service runs on a pay it forward rate whereby equal opportunity is offered to all women who wish to access care from a private midwife. Please ask about the community give back program if you would like to be involved or offer sponsorship.

Closing the bones Ceremony

Closing the Bones is a Mexican Postpartum Ritual. It is an ancient practice from traditional Mexican midwifery. I have had the honour and privilege of learning this ritual from traditional Mexican midwife Naoli Vinaver.

In the Mexican tradition, it is said that during pregnancy a woman undertakes an extreme opening to allow the life and soul of the baby to be birthed through her. Birth itself is considered to be the moment of greatest expansion of a woman physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The closing the bones ceremony honours this expansion, and gently offers closure to the new mother as she returns to her own centre and integrates her personal transformation to motherhood. In addition to honouring women during the sacred postpartum, the ritual can also assist with closure after early pregnancy loss or other significant life events and rites of passages. A closing ceremony helps to close the old in order to make space for a new cycle.

What To Expect

The ceremony generally takes about 5-6 hours to complete and involves four different aspects, each designed to warm, nurture, nourish and ground new mothers while honouring and offering closure after birth (or significant rite of passage).

The four elements are as follows: a full body massage, a ceremonial herbal steam bath designed to imitate the traditional ‘temazcal’, a period of rest under heavy blankets to encourage the body to sweat and release toxins, and a tightening and closing of the body using Mexican rebozos.

Please note: Many people offer a variation of this ceremony here in Australia that is just the final step, the closing with the rebozos. However, it is important to carry out the other steps first to ensure cleansing and energetic healing before the closing takes place.

What is a Rebozo?

The Rebozo is a special traditional mexican woven cloth. Rebozos are consciously created and hand woven by indigenous weavers. The Rebozo is a cultural emblem as well as an artifact of women’s ceremony and daily life. The Rebozo is a versatile cloth used for soothing, embracing and relaxing pregnant and birthing mothers, closing the bones ceremony and carrying babies.

Three Moons midwifery sources rebozos from traditional weavers supporting ethical community give back programs. To learn more about the rebozo and the traditional uses please visit https://www.naolivinaver.com/rebozo-for-birth.html
